PMG
— Work starts on new football stadium development

Top flight football in Cardiff took a major step forward recently when work to clear land designated for Cardiff City Football Club's new stadium began.

Construction company Cuddy moved its earth movers into place to start clearing the land as part of an enabling contract in Leckwith, adjacent to the club's current Ninian Park home. This will be in readiness for major building work to start in April this year.

The club and its development partners, PMG were delighted that the Leader of Cardiff Council, Rodney Berman joined them to mark this momentous sporting landmark for the City of Cardiff.

Councillor Berman described the start of the work as a significant day for the sport in the city. He said:
“We've been battling for years to get to this point and it's fantastic that this work is commencing. A lot of work has gone on behind the scenes to get to where we are today, but for most people seeing the work on site will be the first evidence that the new stadium is becoming a reality."

“Over the coming months the Council will continue to support Cardiff City Football Club and PMG in completing the stadium on schedule, giving the club and its fans the top flight facilities they deserve.”

Paul Guy, Director of PMG was equally excited by the progress saying:
“Cardiff has been hearing about the plans for a new stadium for Cardiff City Football Club for a long time. Now the talking is over and the action begins. This preparatory work will pave the way for the main contractor Laing O'Rourke to begin work on site in less than two months time.”
